ANA SLIŠKOVIĆ

JELENA OMBLA
Associate professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Zadar

November 27 2025
12H30 – 13H30 – VIRTUAL FORMAT

The introductory part of the presentation will explore the complex and multidimensional experiences of parents in Croatia who serve as primary caregivers for their children. It will address the emotional, physical, and social aspects of daily caregiving, as well as the perceived long-term effects on parents’ identity, family relationships, mental health, and professional life. Key strengths and challenges in coping will be highlighted, with special emphasis on the lack of formal support and the social invisibility of parent-caregivers in the Croatian context.

The second part will present findings from the research project “The Well-Being of Employed Parents of Children with Disabilities,” focusing on challenges these parents face in their professional lives. These are aptly reflected in the project’s handbook title: “Being an Employed Parent of a Child with Disabilities: The Art of the (Im)Possible.” The presentation will offer insights into work-related issues and the struggle to balance employment and caregiving.
