This presentation focuses on the study by Gammone, Moro et al. (2025) about the transition and retention of newly qualified nurses (NQNs) – defined as those with up to 12 months of experience. The study updates the rapid evidence assessment by Wray et al. (2021) to explore targeted strategies supporting their transition and retention amid ongoing global nursing shortages that jeopardize care quality. Using a structured rapid evidence assessment method, the authors reviewed literature up to February 2024 from databases including CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, and others. The results reinforce prior findings and add evidence that supportive work environments, one-to-one mentoring, comprehensive transition programs, well-structured final clinical practicums, and positive team dynamics are pivotal. Included studies exhibited medium-high quality, highlighting the need for more robust research on NQNs’ transition experiences and long-term program impacts.
